This past Monday I woke up at 3:30am and could not fall back to sleep. So I decided that if I was going to be awake, I may as well pound away at my never-ending email inbox. After a quick journaling exercise, which I am trying to do every morning, I cracked open my computer. I had every intention of whipping through most of my emails with a quick hit of the delete button, but I was immediately stopped by one from a friend who I had had dinner with the night before. The email contained a link to a podcast about the new moon. We had had a pretty profound conversation at dinner about new beginnings, about the power of intention, and about asking for what you need, and she mentioned that some powerful things were happening in the universe right now. In fact, the next night, Monday the 14th, was going to mark a big transition astrologically. Now, I don’t know anything about astrology, but I chose to listen to the podcast anyway, and wow. Just… wow. This podcast could not speak more directly and perfectly to everything I’m feeling right now.
I highly recommend you listen as well, and in particular, be sure to pay attention to what the podcaster is saying by the end. This month will witness what is being called the Great Conjunction, when the two largest planets in our solar system, Jupiter and Saturn, will be aligned. I’m choosing to call this the Great Sistering. I have been obsessed with this term ever since a dear friend mentioned it to me a few months ago. Sistering is a verb used in the construction world that means to reinforce, to make stronger. It is a layering of a new building material on an old one. I’ve since asked dozens of people if they have heard of the term, and not one of them has. It is a verb whose time has truly come.
The Great Sistering of Jupiter and Saturn happens every 20 years, but this is the first time since 1623 that this particular conjunction will happen in the air sign of Aquarius. In fact, for the next 150 years, all future Great Conjunctions of this type will happen in the air signs of Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra (shout out to my fellow Libras!).
So what does this all mean? Well, I suppose that depends on whether or not you believe in astrology. That being said, as the podcast explains, the age of Aquarius is a time of innovation. A time to innovate around existing power structures, to think about how we treat the collective, and to reflect on how we tell our own personal stories. There is so much more to the podcast, including some great tips on how to be in a relationship with others. The content of the podcast deserves its own post, but I just encourage you to LISTEN to it. 2020 has proven once and for all that the current systems and structures we have in place aren’t working, so now is a time when we need innovation more than ever. If you don’t believe in astrology, I still encourage you to listen, as the messages embedded in this podcast run deep.
As you’ve probably already guessed, I did not catch up on my emails that morning. Instead, I listened to the podcast, really listened and processed the words, and then reached for my pen and did what I always do these days. I wrote a poem. I hope you enjoy it.
