The First Ever SmartPurse Money Rally is Coming, It’s Free, and It’s This Saturday

As published on LinkedIn Influencers on November 17th, 2020.

Is anyone else feeling like there’s a glimmer of light at the end of the dark tunnel that has been 2020 so far? I sure am. After all, there is potential vaccine, the election in the United States is over (I hope), and there’s a few episodes of the new season of This is Us that I have been saving for a snowy weekend.

That being said, one thing that is absolutely clear is that the fallout of 2020 will be felt for a long time. So many lives lost, relationships strained… and the implications of the coronavirus on the economy, both here in the United States and around the world, is in and of itself enough to keep me up at night with worry and anxiety. Money and financial security have always been a top concern for people, but the impact of COVID-19 has magnified these concerns to the point that they can easily be overwhelming. I know I feel this way, and I come from a place of extreme privilege when it comes to money matters. But I think about those who have less resources, less financial security, and in many cases, extreme financial insecurity, and I think about what can I do, both in the short term and the long term, to help. It can be hard to know how to help when the world is on the precipice of a global recession, but one thing that I have decided to do was invest my time, treasure, and talent in SmartPurse.

SmartPurse is an online platform for financial learning, and a coaching toolbox to encourage women to increase their money confidence. On Saturday, November 21st, they’re hosting their first ever Money Rally, with the goal of approaching financial education a little bit differently than it’s been done in the past: together, and with humor and mutual support. To do this, SmartPurse has created a completely new event that brings together women of all backgrounds to draw inspiration from money stories written by life, not finance. Over 15 unexpected speakers, as well as an amazing community, will come together to exchange practical tips, and learn from experts on the money-topics that concern many of us: the pitfalls of part-time work, pensions, making your money grow even if you have little to invest, and life changing events like divorce.

In keeping with its mandate to reach as many women as possible, this event is completely free to attend. The registration link can be found HERE, as well as more information about the event. Money Rally will bring women together in a collaborative and supportive space to discuss issues that affect women at all life stages, and to help find active solutions to real life money problems. While some of the content will be specific to the UK, where the company is based, there will be something for everyone to learn, regardless of where in the world you’re tuning in from.

You must gain control over your money or the lack of it will forever control you.

So much of what has happened in 2020 has been out of our control, but how much we know and understand about money doesn’t have to be one of those things. You may have less, or more, in 2020, but what I know for sure is that learning more about how to take control of your financial resources is always a good thing. Perhaps, in these times of COVID-19, it can be something you will look back on and say that I did that, finally, and it made all difference.

So I will be waking up very early on Saturday morning from my home in Utah, and I hope you will join me. Sign up, invite your friends, invite your coworkers. The event runs from 10AM – 1:30PM GMT, which is 5AM – 8:30AM EST. Early, I know. But you can join at anytime. Sessions include Divorce Dilemmas, Pension Planning, Careers, Children, & Part Time Work, and Smart Investing, while the headline panel will examine the ramifications of this new recession. Once again, this event is free to attend, so please register HERE. And when SmartPurse becomes a global phenomenon around women and money, you can say, ‘I was was there when.”

Financial education, fluency, and empowerment is not a destination. It is a journey, and don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

I got ya sister… and you got me.
