Tyra Banks at the Women Moving Millions “Evening of SPARK!”

Last night, 3 1/2 years after the END of the Women Moving Millions Women’s Funding Network Campaign, Women Moving Millions INC. brought together our community for an “Evening of Spark” in New York City. The purpose of the evening was to bring together our existing community members, potential members and special guests, to share our new mission and new purpose to “mobilize unprecedented resources for the advancement of women and girls.” It was an incredible evening to say the least.

I have so much to say, so much to write about, so much to share but for now let me just tell you about TYRA.  Yes that TYRA!! She was our keynote speaker last night she totally, totally rocked it. Her presence in the room for the moment she walked it was powerful and (her favorite word) FIERCE.  Of course you know that she is a supermodel, a business woman, a TV personality, a philanthropist, but did you know she is also a HARVARD grad? This is one smart and talented woman. We could not have been more honored to have her as our keynote as her passion for the empowerment of girls is off the charts!

Her speech was heartfelt, touching, personal, REAL and she even wrote and delivered a RAP song she wrote just for us! She called us DUB MM … so cool. We heard her powerful story of SPARK and her lifelong dream to create a space where girls could go and grow to become leaders of tomorrow and how she made that dream come true with TZONE. The TZONE is partnering with the Lower Eastside Girls Club and will be opening its doors in 2013 as a leadership development center within the Girls Club. Her passion became purpose, her dream became a reality and now she is helping hundreds of teen and preteen girls achieve greatness in their lives and prepare for tomorrow through mentoring, counseling and classes at the Girls Club. This weekend I will see it with TYRA!

I have had the opportunity to be in the room with a lot of celebrities over my lifetime. I have NEVER met someone so real, so lovely, so considerate and so BEAUTIFUL.. inside and out.  Tyra thank you for being with us and thank you for sharing so much of yourself.  Not surprising you have 7 MM twitter followers. And it was a heck of a lot of fun dancing with you…..

“BUZZ” Local Aseda Wild Honey- Help Bring it to YOU!

Do you love good honey? I mean who doesn’t right? Try drizzling the best honey you can find, Aseda Wild Honey for example, on a yummy cracker with a slice of St. Andre. Truly heaven on earth. What makes it so much better is the knowledge that in buying that honey you are supporting women and there families in Ghana.

Aseda was started by Anthony Baron Kirk in Salt Lake City, Utah because of his love for honey and the knowledge of it’s healing properties.  Let me tell you, Anthony is one very cool person.

The company describes their efforts on the Kickstarter website, “The creation of the Aseda Bee Keepers has created an industry for the people of Mole. An industry, which strengthens the bio-diversity of the land, through the natural process of pollination, which also creates crops to thrive. An industry, that has taken a tribal job for survival and turned it into an opportunity to share a delicious gift, with the world. With this gift of sweetness, Aseda has built a community in Utah who is interested in health and connecting to our global community, while supporting the environment and building a healthy bee population.”

So what can you do? Like them on Facebook , visit Kickstarter to support their work  and help bring Aseda Wild Honey to a store near you!

Anthony we wish you the very best and thank you for the work you do in the world!

WIE Symposium New York City 2012

This month the 3rd annual WIE Symposium is being held in New York City. I am honored to be included as a speaker for the “No VP Left Behind” panel on Sunday September 23.

The WIE Network symposium was created in 2010 in an effort to create a platform for current women leaders to inspire and empower the next generation of women. The symposium brings together leaders from business, world politics, fashion, philanthropy, media, entertainment and the arts for a day of stimulating panels, talks, workshops and award ceremonies. Prior WIE symposiums have attracted inspiring leaders such as Nancy Pelosi, Senator Kristen Gillibrand, Ted Turner, Melinda Gates and many many more.
